Selling & offers

What exactly do you need from me to make an offer?

The registration and your postcode are enough to get a firm figure back on WhatsApp. You fill the quick form, tap the button to open WhatsApp with your details ready, and send — we reply with the offer. If anything unusual applies — missing wheels, fire or flood history, no engine — add a line about it on the form. The more we know up front, the less chance of any adjustment when the driver arrives.

I have offers from two buyers. How do I tell which is real?

Read the small print, not the headline number. A genuine offer names who collects and processes the car, sends it in writing, and stays the same at the doorstep. A teaser price that drops on arrival, or one paid in notes, is the warning sign. Ours is from the people who actually take the car, by instant bank transfer.

Does my offer expire?

Offers hold for a sensible window because part values and weight prices move over time. If you sit on one for weeks, send the reg again and we will re-quote rather than honour a stale figure. There is no pressure to decide on the spot — a fresh offer costs you nothing.

Will pushing back get me a higher number?

There is no haggling layer to unlock, so there is nothing to push against. The figure reflects the parts worth saving and the metal weight, worked out the same way for everyone. If you think we have missed something valuable on the car, tell us and we will look — but we do not start low to leave room.

Can I sell you a car that isn't registered to me?

We buy from the registered keeper or someone clearly acting for them — handling a parent's car, or a vehicle from an estate, for example. We may ask how you are connected to the keeper before we collect. We will not buy a car you cannot show a right to sell, which protects you as much as us.

Uplift & logistics

Do you collect from the islands and the far north?

Yes, but honestly: island and remote-Highland uplifts run on scheduled rounds, often tied to ferry sailings, not a same-day call-out. When you accept, we tell you the realistic collection window for your address rather than promise a van that afternoon. The offer and the free uplift still stand.

What does the driver actually do at collection?

They confirm the car matches the details you sent, check it is the right vehicle and condition, sort the V5C, then load it. There is no separate inspection to renegotiate on — if the car is as described, the agreed figure is paid. The whole stop is usually quick.

Can you reach a car that's boxed in, off-road or up a track?

Usually, but it helps to warn us first. A car behind locked gates, on a steep verge, or down a soft farm track may need different kit or a winch. Mention access on the form and we will send the right vehicle the first time rather than have a driver arrive unable to load.

Do I have to be home when you collect?

Not always. If someone can hand over the keys and we have sorted the paperwork in advance, an authorised friend, neighbour or family member can see the uplift through. Tell us beforehand so we know who to expect and how the bank transfer and logbook will be handled.

Can you take more than one car in a single visit?

Yes — a couple of cars on a drive, or several from a yard or estate clearance, can often go in one booked run. Send each registration on the form so we can quote them separately and bring transport sized for the job. Bigger clearances may take a planned round rather than one trip.

Paperwork & DVLA

What happens if I've lost the V5C completely?

We can still buy the car. We confirm you are the registered keeper another way and notify the DVLA that the vehicle has gone, so liability leaves you. A missing logbook is common and rarely a problem — flag it on the form so we bring the right paperwork to the uplift.

Do you confirm the sale in writing afterwards?

Yes. Because the conversation runs on WhatsApp, you keep a written trail from the first offer through to proof of payment. Where a car is processed as end-of-life, the group facility issues a Certificate of Destruction. Keep these — they are your evidence the car is no longer your responsibility.

There's still finance owed on the car. Can you buy it?

Not until the finance is settled. While money is outstanding the lender, not you, owns the car, so it isn't yours to sell. Clear the agreement or get written confirmation it is settled first, then send us the reg. We can talk you through what the lender needs to provide.

Can a company or sole trader sell a vehicle to you?

Yes. Business-owned cars and vans are fine — just make sure whoever signs the V5C is authorised to sell on the company's behalf. We notify the DVLA the same way and pay by bank transfer to the account you nominate. Mention on the form that it is a company vehicle.

Payment & the cash law

Why is paying cash for a scrap car against the law?

Scrap metal dealers in Scotland cannot pay cash for vehicles — payment must be traceable, by bank transfer or cheque. The rule exists to stop stolen cars vanishing for untraceable notes. So we pay every seller by instant bank transfer; anyone offering you notes in hand for a scrap car is operating outside that law.

When does the money actually reach me?

We send the transfer at collection, once the car and paperwork are confirmed — not days later. How fast it lands in your account depends on your bank, usually within minutes on Faster Payments. You will have the payment in motion before the driver pulls away, with the WhatsApp thread as your record either side.

Whose account do you pay into?

The account you tell us belongs to you, the seller. We do not pay a third party you have never mentioned, and we will not hand notes to whoever happens to be standing there. If someone else is handling the uplift for you, the money still goes to your nominated account.

Is a bank transfer safe for selling a car like this?

It is the safest way. You get a dated record of exactly what was paid, by whom, against a specific vehicle — far stronger protection than cash that leaves no trail. It is also the only lawful method for a scrap car in Scotland, so a buyer using it is a buyer following the rules.

Vehicles we buy

Is there any car you won't buy?

We buy running cars, used cars, MOT failures, damaged cars and end-of-life vehicles across Scotland. The main things we cannot take are cars with unsettled finance, vehicles you have no right to sell, or anything you have flagged as stolen. If you are unsure your car qualifies, send the reg and ask.

What about an imported or left-hand-drive car?

Often yes — send the registration and tell us it is an import or left-hand drive on the form. Some imports need a little extra checking on the paperwork and how they are recorded with the DVLA, so the offer may take slightly longer to confirm than a standard UK car.

Do you buy classics or project cars that don't run?

We do buy non-runners and stalled projects, valued on saleable parts and weight like any other car. We are a buyer and processor, not a collector, so we will not pay a hobbyist premium for a rare model. If it has restoration value to an enthusiast, you may do better selling it on privately.

Will you take a van or pickup as well as a car?

Yes — cars, vans and pickups are all bought the same way: reg and postcode in, firm offer back, free uplift, paid by bank transfer. For a sign-written or ex-fleet van, a quick note about its condition on the form helps us quote accurately the first time.

What happens to my car after you take it?

It goes to the group's SEPA-licensed facility, where end-of-life cars are depolluted — fuel, oils, battery and airbags removed — then recycled, with a Certificate of Destruction issued. Cars with life left in them are saved for reuse rather than crushed. Nothing disappears into the grey market.
