Who you’re dealing with
These terms are between you and Car Buyer Scotland, part of the Caledonian Autosalvage group. By requesting an offer or using this website you accept them. Bookings are made via WhatsApp: you fill the quick on-page form, it opens WhatsApp pre-filled with your details, and once you send it we reply with a firm offer on WhatsApp.
Registered address (correspondence only — we always come to you): Unit 1a, Mt Alexander, Camaghael Rd, Fort William, PH33 7NF. Email: leads@carbuyerscotland.co.uk. Nothing in these terms reduces your statutory rights as a consumer.
The deal, in three cards
Firm offers
Your offer is based on the details you give us plus vehicle data for the reg. If the car matches that description on inspection, the price stands — no doorstep haggling.
Bank transfer only
Payment is an instant bank transfer made at collection. We never pay cash — paying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal under Scottish metal-dealing law.
Free uplift
Collection is free anywhere in Scotland. There is no collection charge, no admin fee and nothing deducted from the agreed price — the figure quoted is the figure paid.
Your offer
We make offers from the registration, postcode and condition details you provide, together with vehicle and market data. Offers are valid for 7 days unless our WhatsApp reply says otherwise. If the vehicle differs from your description when our driver inspects it — missing parts, undisclosed damage, no keys — we’ll explain the difference and make a revised offer on the spot. You can decline a revised offer and we leave with no charge to you.
Payment
Instant bank transfer at collection. Once the vehicle and paperwork check out, we send payment to the UK bank account you nominate before the vehicle leaves. We do not pay cash, send cheques or use payment apps — a traceable transfer protects you as much as us.
Collection
We agree a collection window with you on WhatsApp or by email (or by mobile, if you gave one for the driver). You or an adult you’ve authorised must be present, with the keys, and the vehicle must be accessible to a recovery truck. If we can’t reasonably access the vehicle we’ll rearrange — still free.
What we need from you
- You own the vehicle or have the legal right to sell it, and you’re 18 or over.
- Your description of the vehicle and its condition is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
- The V5C logbook is available — or you’ve told us beforehand that it isn’t, so we can advise on the DVLA route.
- Any outstanding finance has been settled or disclosed to us before collection.
- Personal belongings are removed, and we recommend wiping personal data from any infotainment system.
Paperwork
We complete the DVLA notification with you at collection so liability for the vehicle leaves you the same day. End-of-life vehicles are processed through a SEPA-licensed facility and a Certificate of Destruction is issued via the DVLA system. Keep your section of the paperwork until your confirmation arrives.
Cancelling
You can cancel any time before collection — just message us back on WhatsApp or reply to your offer email. No reason needed, nothing to pay. We may also withdraw an offer before collection, for example if vehicle data shows a problem we weren’t told about; if we do, we’ll tell you why.
Using this website
Content on this site is general information about selling and scrapping vehicles in Scotland, not formal advice, and we keep it as accurate as we can. Page content, copy and graphics belong to us — don’t reproduce them commercially without permission. Don’t misuse the site: no scraping, no automated form submissions, no attempts to interfere with how it runs. We take no payments and hold no customer accounts on this website.
Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded — including death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud. Beyond that, we’re responsible for foreseeable loss caused by our breach of these terms, but not for indirect or business losses. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Scots law and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction, though as a consumer you keep any mandatory protections of the law where you live. If something goes wrong, email us first — most issues are sorted in one reply.
Quick answers on these terms
What happens if my car is worse than I described?
The driver will show you the difference and give you a revised offer on the spot. You can accept it or decline it — if you decline, we leave and you pay nothing.
Is anything ever deducted from the offer?
No. Uplift is free, there are no admin fees and the agreed figure is the figure that lands in your account. If the car matches your description, the price does not move.
When exactly am I paid?
At collection, by instant bank transfer, once the vehicle and paperwork are checked. Most banks show the money within minutes; we never pay cash because for scrap vehicles that is illegal in Scotland.
Can I cancel after accepting an offer?
Yes — any time before the vehicle is collected, free of charge. Just message us back on WhatsApp (or reply to your offer email) and tell us you have changed your mind.
I have lost the V5C logbook — is the deal off?
Usually no, but tell us before collection. There is a DVLA route for selling without a V5C and we will walk you through it — see our FAQs for the detail.
