Scrap Car Uplift — the detail
Uplift is the part most people worry about: how a dead car gets off the drive without costing them. With us it does not cost you anything on the Scottish mainland. We bring the truck, load the car whether it starts or not, deal with the DVLA notification and pay the agreed figure by bank transfer before we leave.
What free scrap car uplift actually covers
Free should mean free. There is no recovery surcharge, no admin fee and no diesel levy quietly knocked off the figure when the driver arrives anywhere on the mainland. The amount agreed against your registration is the amount paid on collection.
The one honest exception is the islands and the most remote Highland glens. A scheduled run to those areas can carry a travel adjustment, and if it does we agree it with you up front when you book — never sprung on you at the roadside.
If a so-called free collection only stays free as long as you accept a lower price at the kerb, it was never free. Our uplift fee is zero and stays zero on the mainland.
We collect non-runners and immobile cars
The car does not need to start, drive, steer or hold air in its tyres. Our recovery equipment is built for non-runners that have not moved in years — flat batteries, seized engines, no keys, parked nose-in against a wall.
Tell us roughly where it sits and how accessible it is when you book, and we bring the right kit. A car on a flat driveway, one in a shared back court and one half off a single-track road all need slightly different handling, and knowing in advance keeps the slot smooth.
- Non-runners, MOT failures and cars long off the road
- Vehicles with no keys, no battery or seized brakes
- Driveway, kerbside, car park, back court or roadside pick-up
- Cars that need winching rather than driving onto the truck
How a collection slot works
Once you accept the written offer, you tell us what suits and we fit the uplift around you. The slot is confirmed on WhatsApp, like everything else — no call centre chasing you, no driver phoning to renegotiate on the way.
You do not strictly have to be there if access is sorted and the paperwork is arranged in advance, though most people prefer to hand the car over in person. Either way the payment clears by bank transfer at collection, not days later.
Removal, recycling and the paperwork after pick-up
Collection is only half of it. The car is taken to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility in the Caledonian Autosalvage group, where it is depolluted and recycled properly as an end-of-life vehicle rather than dumped or stripped in a layby.
We notify the DVLA that the vehicle has gone for destruction and you receive a Certificate of Destruction confirming it. From the day of uplift the car stops being your responsibility — no liability, no parking notices in your name — and there is a little to sort once the car has gone, from the road tax refund to cancelling the insurance.

How far we travel for uplift
We cover the whole of Scotland, from the Borders up through the Central Belt to the Highlands. Mainland uplift is genuinely free and usually arranged quickly once you accept an offer.
Island and far-north collections run on scheduled rounds rather than same-day everywhere, simply because of ferries and distance. We will be straight with you about the next available run and any travel adjustment before you commit.
How selling your car works
No pushy phone calls at any point — the quick form opens WhatsApp, and the offer comes back there.
-
Send your reg
Reg and postcode in, the button opens WhatsApp with your details, and a firm offer comes back on WhatsApp — usually within minutes, never a pressure call.
-
Book your free uplift
Pick a time that suits and our driver comes to you — home, work or roadside, anywhere in Scotland.
-
Paid before we leave
Instant bank transfer lands while the driver is still with the car, and we handle the DVLA paperwork.
What you get that other buyers skip
A buyer, not a broker
We are part of the Caledonian Autosalvage group — your car goes to a licensed yard, not into a lead auction.
The price holds
The figure we send on WhatsApp is what you are paid, unless the car is materially different from how you described it — and then we re-quote in writing first.
Paperwork done right
DVLA notification handled at uplift, so the car stops being your problem the day it leaves.
No pressure machinery
No call centre, no “offer expires in 10 minutes”, no doorstep renegotiation. The form, the WhatsApp reply, the truck.
Common questions
Is scrap car uplift genuinely free?
On the Scottish mainland, yes — no collection fee, recovery charge or admin cost, and nothing knocked off the figure at the kerb. The only exception is some island and remote-Highland runs, where any travel adjustment is agreed with you up front when you book.
Can you uplift a car that won't start or move?
Yes. Our recovery gear handles non-runners, seized engines, cars with no keys and vehicles that have not moved in years. Just tell us where the car sits and how easy it is to reach so we bring the right equipment for the slot.
Do I need to be there for the collection?
Not always. If access is sorted and the paperwork is arranged in advance, the uplift can go ahead without you present. Most sellers prefer to be there to hand over the keys and V5C, and the payment clears by bank transfer at collection either way.
How soon can you collect after I accept the offer?
On the mainland it is usually quick — you pick a time that suits and we confirm the slot on WhatsApp. Island and remote-Highland uplifts run on scheduled rounds, so we will tell you the next available date honestly rather than promise same-day everywhere.
