Where the car is being destroyed, the Authorised Treatment Facility issues a Certificate of Destruction — your proof it has been dealt with legally. You should have it within seven days, you can reclaim any remaining road tax from the DVLA, and if there is a cherished number on the car you can keep your private plate by retaining it first.
